Description

ABOUT THE SESSION

How can a country claiming loyalty to a single values-based document like the U.S. Constitution be as polarized on values as we appear to be?

How can we better understand what unites and divides us?

How can we approach controversial issues without vitriol?

Join us for us an interactive virtual program that provides leaders with the tools to think about and facilitate conversations with diverse audiences on controversial public issues.

Participants will walk away with a rough “map” of American public values, and be challenged to participate (via online audience polling) in discussions centered around real-world case-studies on issues such as race, policing, the value of liberty, euthanasia, professional ethics in public contexts, and more.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Dr. Wally Siewert, Director of Civic Engagement and Impact Fellows for FOCUS St. Louis, has designed and used these methods to facilitate many contentious public conversations over the past decade, including conversations between Republicans and Democrats, between police and protesters, and more. He is also a regular presenter on values-based leadership at conferences and workshops.

Past attendees of Dr. Siewert’s sessions have said:

“This was the best ethics session I’ve ever attended. His content pushed us to think beyond the ‘right’ answer.”
“The examples and case studies really helped to illustrate the challenges of ethical decision-making and application of values to real-life situations.”
“Wally challenged us to thinking about the existing narratives in a non-threatening way.”
“Fascinating topic and highly educational!”
